When my kids were in Pre-K and Kindergarten, I purchased boxes upon boxes of vibrantly illustrated flash cards for reviewing numbers, letters, shapes and eventually, basic sight words with the kids. Before too long the flash cards’ edges tattered and peeled apart, and packing tape held the sides of the thin cardboard boxes together. Soon, I gave up on the boxes altogether and simply dropped the flash cards into half-gallon Ziploc bags to store.
My previous experience with flash cards is the reason why, earlier this Summer, I accepted an offer for samples of the Write-On Wipe-Off Learning Cards developed and produced by Flash Kids.
The Write-On Wipe-Off Learning Cards target children ages 3-5, and come in a sturdy box, smartly designed to hold up to repeated use.
Each set of Flash Kids Learning Cards contains 40 highly engaging illustrated cards, plus a dry erase pen with an affixed eraser. Parents have the option to choose from four different activity selections, Shapes, Letters, Numbers, and School Skills.
Traditional flash cards serve a relatively singular purpose, but Flash Kids Learning Cards are dual-purpose with their reusable, glossy surface.
This means kids can write directly on the cards over and over again, erasing the marks easily and completely while learning or reviewing basic Preschool and Kindergarten concepts through fun activities.
Each of the larger scale 5×7 inch cards has smooth, rounded corners with learning activities available on either side.
Using the dry erase marker, children may enjoy practicing their writing by forming uppercase and lowercase letters, along with simple three-letter words.
Parents of preschoolers can utilize the cards to help children master counting from 1 to 20. Additionally, encouraging children to trace along the provided dotted lines provides practice for writing numerals and number words; each activity prepares children for their very first lessons in math.
Other basic concepts like opposites, same and different, and rhyming words are covered.
Activities will also familiarize children with a range of shapes from the simple circle or square to the more complex trapezoid and pentagon, and draw and identify the same shapes found in everyday, and not so everyday, objects.
It is easy to see how these cards can supplement the busy lifestyles of parents today. Compact and securely packaged, FlashKids Learning Cards can go anywhere. Store them in the car or toss the box of cards in a purse, tote or diaper bag.
When Emelie was in elementary school, I would have used these cards to keep Meredith occupied in her car seat while we waited in the pick-up line. The same could be said with Kenny while we waited out the girls’ twice-weekly soccer practices and Meredith’s ballet classes.
Everything a child needs to participate tucks away neatly in the box, making these cards a quiet, yet creative means for continued learning.
